Williamstown, MA --- Sophomore Jason Bugarin (Fitchburg, MA) finished 26th as the WPI men's cross country team came home ninth at the ECAC Division III Championships, hosted by Williams, Saturday at Mount Greylock High School.
The Engineers, who finished a head of No. 21 Wesleyan (21st – 575), totaled 280 points. No. 5 Amherst won the meet with 53 points followed by No. 3 Williams with 77. No. 30 Middlebury was third (117) as regionally-ranked No. 8 Colby was fourth (145). No. 17 Tufts rounded out the top five with 152 points as No. 34 NYU was sixth (155) and No. 35 Bates was seventh (277).
All seven Engineers were in the top 90 out of 277 harriers. Bugarin raced to a 27:39.0 while senior Anthony Gallo (Rocky Hill, CT) placed 54th (28:06.2) and junior Daniel Mortimer (Shrewsbury, MA) crossed the finish line 62nd (28:16.6). Junior David Goodrich (North Haven, CT) was 70th (28:28.1) and freshman Mark Landergan (Newburyport, MA) was four runners, and 3.1 seconds, behind in 74th. Senior Lucas Roy (Bourne, MA) and freshman Matt Rabasco (Pittsfield, MA), meanwhile, were .3 seconds apart in 85th (28:47.5) and 86th (28:47.8), respectively.
WPI ventures back to Harkness Memorial State Park in Waterford, CT for the NCAA Division III New England Regionals on Saturday.
