Waterford, CT --- The WPI women's cross country team concluded the 2015 campaign with a 15th-place finish at the NCAA Division III New England Regional Saturday at Harkness Memorial State Park.
No 2 Williams, who swept both genders, needed only 44 points to take the women's crown. No. 5 Tufts was second (107) as No. 8 Middlebury was third (108), No. 3 MIT was fourth (114) and No. 32 Wellesley was fifth (170). The Engineers, meanwhile, totaled 488 on the day.
Sophomore Emily Newman (Easton, MA) once again paced the Crimson and Gray as she clocked a 79th-place time of 23:19.3. She was followed by senior Julie Tevenan (Weymouth, MA) in 84th (23:23.4). Sophomore Lea Strangio (Watertown, MA) crossed the finish line 103rd (23:41.6) as classmate Jasmine Higuera (Riverside, CA) was 110th (23:46.4) and freshman Steffany Halfrey (Hubbardston, MA) turned in a 115th-place 23:50.8. Junior Liz Hansen (Richmond, RI) was 153rd (24:21.1) while senior Jessica Orr (Westerly, RI) came home 186th (24:53.6).
The 2015 season saw WPI recapture its Worcester City Meet title and post a program-best third-place finish at the NEWMAC Championships under fifth-year head coach Mike Maceiko.
