New Gloucester, ME --- Junior Jasmine Higuera Castillo (Riverside, CA) turned in a top 10 effort to guide WPI to a fourth place finish at the Bates Super XC Shootout Saturday at Pineland Farms.
No. 6 Tufts won the meet with 105 points, which featured top 12 scoring, followed by regionally-ranked No. 10 Bates (170), nationally-ranked No. 28 Wellesley (289) and the Engineers (317).
Higuera Castillo clocked a 19:30.3 to take 10th for the Crimson and Gray. Junior Lea Strangio (Watertown, MA) came home 26th (20:11.4) followed by classmate Maggie LaRoche (Madison, NH) in 29th (20:23.5). Sophomore Steffany Halfrey (Hubbardston, MA) was just outside the top 30 with a time of 20:29.7.
Freshman Callie Schadt (Brewster, MA) debuted with a 38th-place 20:52.1. Senior Liz Hansen (Richmond, RI) took 49th (21:16.0) as junior Gina Capobianco (Colonie, NY) crossed the finish line 54th (22:22.2).
Sophomore Carly Neeld (Williston, VT) was 56th overall with a 22:28.8. Junior Emma MacIntyre (Grand Island, NY) was two spots behind with a 22:41.2. Seniors Julia Smith (Cranston, RI) and Theresa Inzerillo (Nashua, NH) rounded out the Engineers entries with times of 22:39.7 and 28:54.8, respectively.
WPI heads to the Worcester City Meet at Moore State Park in Paxton Friday at 4pm.
