Williamstown, MA --- The WPI men's cross country finished 10th at the star-studded Purple Valley Classic hosted by Williams at Mount Greylock High School Saturday afternoon.
No. 2 Geneseo won the team title with 48 points. No. 3 Williams came in second (64) while No. 6 MIT placed third (89). No. 10 Amherst (107) and No. 19 RPI (112) rounded out the top five. No. 16 Colby (144) led the next five with New England No. 7 Middlebury following in seventh (204), No. 28 Dickinson in eighth (237), No. 25 NYU (238) and New England No. 9 WPI (254). Mid-East No. 6 DeSales (361) ended up 12th and No. 28 Tufts came home 14th. NEWMAC foe Springfield was 17th (539).
Senior Austin Scott (Waddington, NY) led the Engineers with a 19th-place time of 26:02.2. Sophomore Michael Brady (Medway, MA) clocked a 49th-place 26:54.3 as junior Justin Trott (North Hampton, NH) crossed the finish line in 54th (26:57.7). Freshmen Avery Ingegneri (Warwick, RI) and Tom Hanlon (Derry, NH) came home 64th (27:06.5) and 68th (27:11.8), respectively. Seniors Nathan Stomberg (West Greenwich, RI) (75th – 27:28.4) and Kyle Morrison (York, ME) (90th – 28:01.0) shored up the Engineers top seven.
Men's Cross Country heads to Boston's Franklin Park Saturday, October 8th for the All-New England Championships.
