Waterford, CT --- The WPI women's cross country team placed 13th at the Conn. College Invitational Saturday at Harkness Memorial State Park.
No. 13 Tufts won with 63 points, followed by No. 9 Middlebury with 70. No. 6 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps was third (78) and No. 34 DeSales was fourth (114). New England No. 7 Brandeis rounded out the top five with 197.
Coast Guard led the NEWMAC contingent with a 10th-place effort (274) while WPI (332) finished ahead of Clark (15th – 438), Wheaton (16th – 440), Springfield (17th – 454) and Babson (21st – 593) in a mini-preview of the conference championship, which will be held at Smith in two weeks (Oct. 29).
Junior Jasmine Higuera Castillo (Riverside, CA) was the 29th scored runner with a time of 22:51.1. Also earning top 100 points were freshman Callie Schadt (Brewster, MA) in 54th (23:48.3), senior Liz Hansen (Richmond, RI) in 65th (24:04.3) and sophomore Steffany Halfrey (Hubbardston, MA) in 83rd (24:24.8). Freshman Olivia Ridley (West Baldwin, ME) was 101st (25:01.6) as sophomore Carly Neeld (Williston, VT) as 111th(25:16.5) and junior Gina Capobianco (Colonie, NY) was 119th (25:38.3).
