Waterford, CT --- Five members of the WPI men's cross country team finished in the top 40 as the team came home sixth at the Connecticut College Invitational Saturday at Harkness State Park.
The field was led by No. 14 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (79), No. 22 Middlebury (84), New England No. 8 Conn. College (105), national No. 30 Tufts (114) and Brandeis (127). The Engineers (137) placed ahead of Central No. 10 Central (IA) and Mideast No. 6 York (PA) who totaled 158 and 172, respectively.
The entries also included six of the eight teams that will be competing in two weeks (Oct. 29) at the NEWMAC Championships hosted by Smith. WPI bested Babson (10th – 288), Coast Guard (13th – 363), Springfield (14th – 371), Clark (18th – 573) and Wheaton (20th - 625).
Senior Austin Scott (Waddington, NY) cracked the top 10 with a ninth-place 25:08. Junior Justin Trott (North Hampton, NH) was 11 spots behind in 20th (25:25.7) as sophomore Michael Brady (Medway, MA) was 33rd (25:48.1) and junior Tristam Winship (Bedford, NH) was 35th (25:50.8). Senior Nathan Stomberg (West Greenwich, RI) posted a 25:57.6 to cross the finish line 40th. Freshman Tom Hanlon (Derry, NH) claimed 52nd-place with a time of 26:28.1 and senior Kyle Morrison (York, ME) earned 53rd-place points with a 26:28.9.
