Higuera Castillo Leads WPI Women's Cross Country to Fifth Place at NEWMACs

Northampton, MA --- Junior Jasmine Higuera Castillo (Riverside, CA) paced the WPI women's cross country teams with an All-Conference effort as the team was fifth at the NEWMAC Championships Saturday afternoon at Smith.

MIT was efficient with 15 points followed by Wellesley (69), Coast Guard (89), Smith (139) and WPI (141). Wheaton (150), Clark (167), Springfield (210), Mount Holyoke (286), Emerson (286) and Babson (290) all finished behind the Crimson and Gray.

Higuera Castillo raced to an eighth-place time of 19:12. Freshman Callie Schadt (Brewster, MA) earned 23rd-place points with a 20:19 while sophomore Steffany Halfrey (Hubbardston, MA) claimed 30th (20:37) and senior Liz Hansen (Richmond, RI) secured 32nd (20:41). Junior Gina Capobianco (Colonie, NY) was 48th (21:16) as sophomores Carly Neeld (Williston, VT) and Lauren Farry (Pittsfield, MA) came home 52nd (21:25) and 59th (21:34), respectively.

The Engineers head to Westfield State for the Division III New England Regionals Saturday, November 12.
