Triple Take: WPI Men’s Cross Country, Again, Perfect at Worcester City Meet

Paxton, MA --- The WPI men's cross country team was perfect at the Worcester City Meet, hosted by Worcester State at Moore State Park, for the third consecutive year. Sophomore Avery Ingegneri (Warwick, RI) was the individual champion while senior Tristam Winship (Bedford, NH) earned the Brian Savilonis Award as the top finishing senior at the 51st edition of the event.

The Engineers needed only 15 points to pick up their 44th title. Division II Assumption was second (51) followed by Fitchburg State (89), Worcester State (112) and Clark (131).

Ingegneri completed the course in a time of 27:49.7. Sophomore Tom Hanlon (Derry, NH) was close behind in 27:51.0. Sophomore Jake Scarponi (Barrington, NH) handed in a third-place 28:08.7 while Winship was fourth (28:24). Austin Scott '17 paced the WPI Alumni and broke up the parade of eligible Engineers with a fifth-place 28:28.2.

Senior Justin Trott (North Hampton, NH) picked up fifth-place points with a time of 28:40.7 and freshman Logan Gaudette (Holden, MA) collected sixth-place points for his 28:56.1. Junior Matt Rabasco (Pittsfield, MA) shored up the WPI top seven with a time of 29:00.5, which was ninth overall and eighth for scoring purposes.

Men's Cross Country is idle until the All-New England All-Division Championships on Saturday, October 7.
