Boston, MA --- Sophomore Avery Ingegneri (Warwick, RI) and senior Tristam Winship (Bedford, NH) each earned All-NEWMAC honors as the duo led the WPI men's cross country team to a second-place finish at the NEWMAC Championships Sunday at Franklin Park.
No 10 MIT saw its scorers occupy seven of the top nine spots for a total of 18 points. WPI, the 10th-ranked team in the region by the USTFCCCA, was next with 71 with Coast Guard third (85), Babson - who is receiving votes in the regional poll - fourth (89) and Springfield (122) fifth.
Ingegneri was 13th overall (11 points) with a time of 26:15 and Winship followed five seconds later to claim 14th (12 points). Sophomore Jake Scarponi (Barrington, NH) was the third Boynton Hiller to cross the finish line with a 26:29, good for 16th overall and 13 points. Sophomore Tom Hanlon (Derry, NH) picked up 14 points for his 18th-place time of 26:40.
Junior Remi Gaetjens (Limerick, ME) was 28th (21 points – 27:10 while classmate Michael Brady (Medway, MA) returned from IQP to take 33rd (25 points – 27:21). Fellow junior Matt Rabasco (Pittsfield, MA) edged freshman Logan Gaudette (Holden, MA) by three seconds for 17 points and the 35th-place time of 27:22.
WPI treks to Southern Maine for the NCAA Division III New England Regional Saturday, November 11.
