Dartmouth, MA --- Senior Michael Brady (Medway, MA) guided the WPI men's cross country team to a second-place showing Saturday at the UMass Dartmouth Buddy Harris Invitational. The Engineers also won the sub-varsity race that featured four student-athletes in the top-10.
Division II Southern New Hampshire claimed the team crown with 74 points. The Engineers were 13 behind with 87. Division II American International (108) and Franklin Pierce (183), and Division III Trinity (194) rounded out the top five out of 41 scoring teams.
Brady navigated the five-mile Robert Dowd Cross Country Course in 25:16.3 to secure eighth place. Junior Jake Scarponi (Barrington, NH) was 13th (25:33.9) as classmate Tom Hanlon (Derry, NH) was 17th (25:39.4). Freshman Brian Brooks (Brewster, MA) was a fraction of a second outside the top-20 with a 25:43.4. Sophomore Logan Gaudette (Holden, MA) clocked a 25:53.4 to place 28th while freshman Owen Lally (Lebanon, CT) crossed the finish line in 36th (26:15.1). Graduate student Kyle Gerlach (Smithfield, RI) shored up the top-7 with a 55th-place 26:42.1. Junior Avery Ingegneri (Warwick, RI) also represented the Crimson and Gray in the varsity race.
WPI treks to Williamstown, MA Saturday for the Purple Valley Invitational.
