Waterford, CT --- Senior Michael Brady (Medway, MA) was 12th overall, and the top placing NEWMAC runner, to lead WPI to an eighth-place showing at the Conn College Invitational Saturday at Harkness State Park.
No. 16 Amherst claimed the team title (72), No. 8 Williams (76) was second, and No. 12 Middlebury (96) was third. New England No. 7 Tufts (136) took fourth and No. 30 Dickinson (140) rounded out the top five. No. 28 Connecticut College led the next group with 208 points, followed by No. 29 St. Thomas (MN) with 271. The Crimson and Gray, the ninth-ranked team in the region, was only eight points behind with 279.
Brady navigated the course in 25:20.7. He was followed by sophomore Logan Gaudette (Holden, MA) in 57th (26:04.4) and junior Tom Hanlon (Derry, NH) in 62nd (26:06.5). Junior Avery Ingegneri (Warwick, RI) crossed the finish line 80th (26:16.1) as freshman Brian Brooks (Brewster, MA) was 90th (26:23.8) and senior Remington Gaetjens (Limerick, ME) was 92nd (26:24.4). Junior Jake Scarponi (Barrington, NH) placed 109th (26:33.5) for the Engineers.
WPI begins the postseason on Saturday, October 27 at the NEWMAC Championships, hosted by Smith.
