Northampton, MA --- Junior Sydney Packard (Georgetown, MA), graduate student Emily Newman (Easton, MA), sophomore Keely Nistler (Vadnais Heights, MN) and junior Ari Rozen (Carver, MA) secured All-Conference accolades as the WPI women's cross country team finished second at the 2018 NEWMAC Championships, hosted by Smith, on Saturday. Packard, Newman and Rozen also earned the honor at last year's meet.
No. 4 MIT (20 points) once again claimed the team title while WPI (71), who is receiving votes in the USTFCCCA regional poll, bested No. 23 Coast Guard (85) by 14 points to take second for the second consecutive season. Wellesley (105) and the host Pioneers (133) followed in fourth and fifth. Mount Holyoke (144), Babson (197), Wheaton (207), Springfield (234), Clark (320) and Emerson (345) completed the 11-team field.
Packard led the Engineers with a seventh-place 19:35. Newman, the 2014 conference rookie of the year and three-time All-NEWMAC selection, crossed the finish line in 10th (19:55) for the Engineers. Nistler earned recognition for the first time with an 11th-place 19:56 and Rozen returned to the lineup and finished 14th (20:00).
Freshman Ciara Young (Milton, MA) clocked a 20:48, which was good for 34th overall. Seniors Steffany Halfrey (Hubbardston, MA) and Carly Neeld (Williston, VT) were 54th and 62nd out of 149 entries, respectively.
The Boynton Hillers head to Bowdoin for the NCAA Division III New England Championships on Saturday, November 10.
