Bristol, RI --- WPI women's soccer's
Hannah Wolfgang (Holliston, MA) and
Lily Guiliano (North Salem, NY) netted a pair of first half goals as goalkeeper
Lili Hellerman (Ashland, MA) collected the shutout on the road to help the Engineers to a 2-0 non-conference victory at Roger Williams.
With the triumph the Engineers advance to 4-4 overall and the hosting Hawks slip to 1-5-2 for the 2023 season.
Wolfgang wasted no time helping the Crimson and Gray get on the scoreboard as she found the back of net in just the fifth minute of action. Roger Williams strung a trio of shots together in response over the next 22 minutes of play which were all kept away by Hellerman.
The Engineers maintained their attacking ways as Wolfgang and Guiliano recorded three consecutive shots until first-year
Maeve Steckley (Rochester, NY) connected with Guiliano at 38:26 to extend the lead to two heading into the intermission.
WPI and Roger Williams exchanged shots throughout the first 10 minutes of action in the second half featuring shots from
Madisyn Bagby (Aurora, CO) and the Hawks'
Raffaella Brunetti (North Providence, RI) and
Grace Kelly (Milford, NH) which was denied by Hellerman.
Olivia Toolin (Bedford, NH) and
Reese Pszenny (Danvers, MA) logged the final efforts to tack on another goal but were saved by
Coco Marelli (Fairfield, CT).
On the evening in Bristol, Hellerman totaled nine saves in between the pipes for the Crimson and Gray en route to her second clean sheet of the season and fifth in her career. Roger Williams' Marelli logged five saves in the loss.
Both teams return to conference action on Saturday. WPI entertains Salve Regina at noon in a NEWMAC tilt while Roger Williams ventures to Milton to square off with Curry in a 2pm matchup.
