PERA MISSION
STATEMENT (Adopted May 2004):
"The Department of Physical Education, Recreation &
Athletics is committed to promoting an appreciation for lifelong
wellness, to fostering growth in leadership, encouraging the
pursuit of excellence, and enhancing the overall experience for our
students.
We will provide an environment which develops health,
work ethic, teamwork, leadership and integrity, all
of which are essential for our students, both personally
and professionally.
Through participation, our students will emerge
well-rounded with the skill, knowledge and abilities to maintain
active lifelong learning in order to help them be successful in
life."
VISION
STATEMENT (Adopted May 2009):
WPI Athletics will be a top performing, valued program for the
university that will provide a high quality experience for all
involved.
GOAL 1:
OUR STUDENT-ATHLETES WILL HAVE A HIGH QUALITY
EXPERIENCE.
WPI will provide staffing levels appropriate for the
needs of a high quality Division III athletic program for our
student-athletes to receive the quality attention, direction and
leadership needed for success. Our coaches will be focused to
recruit, lead and develop top quality student-athletes that will
excel at WPI in the classroom and in competition. Our
student-athletes will be well-rounded members of the WPI community
who our staff, faculty and alumni will enjoy having represent our
university.
GOAL 2:
OUR COACHING STAFF WILL BE SUPPORTED IN THE IMPORTANT WORK THEY
DO.
Our coaching staff will have appropriate
responsibilities, salaries and funding to achieve excellence and
provide a quality experience for our student-athletes and the
university. We will be committed to continual professional
development to learn, grow and develop in meeting the ever-changing
demands of a quality Division III athletic program and the
expectations of the university.
GOAL
3: WPI ATHLETICS WILL BE WELL MANAGED AND FUNDED
APPROPRIATELY.
Our athletic program will have the necessary
administrative support and operational budget to manage effectively
a high quality athletic program that
excels.
GOAL
4: WPI ATHLETICS WILL BE ETHICAL AND COMPETITIVE AND STRIVE
FOR EXCELLENCE IN THE CLASSROOM, IN COMPETITION AND IN THE
COMMUNITY.
Our student-athletes and coaches will represent the
best of the university and reflect the commitment to excellence in
all that we do. We will contribute to the vibrant campus life
of the university, engage our alumni and do important, needed work
in the Worcester community. In competition, we will align
ourselves with schools that will provide fair competition and be
like minded in our commitment to the student and athlete. We
will strive for championships and national recognition while also
remaining firmly committed to GPA and graduation rates that are the
same or better than the general student population. We will be
committed to growth and development in our work, management and
leadership so that we reflect well upon the university and are
prepared for the future needs and demands of a high quality
Division III athletics program.
GOAL 5:
OUR ATHLETIC FACILITIES WILL BE OF HIGH QUALITY TO REPRESENT
EXCELLENCE AND THE UNIVERSITY WELL.
WPI will continue to provide the high quality
facilities (on-campus and off-campus as needed) to properly support
a successful athletic program and allow our coaches and
student-athletes to perform at their best. Our facilities
will remain on par with our competitor schools and be emblematic of
the university’s commitment and desire for excellence in our
athletic program.
