Women’s Soccer and Salve Regina Scramble to Scoreless Stalemate in NEWMAC Road Tilt

Newport, RI --- The WPI women's soccer program tied Salve Regina in a NEWMAC road contest that concluded in scoreless draw at Reynolds Field.

With the tied result, the Crimson and Gray stand at 4-2-3 and 1-0-1 in league action as the hosts sit at 1-6-1 with a 0-0-1 mark in NEWMAC competition.

WPI's Maeve Steckley (Rochester, NY) opened the offensive attack for the game with back-to-back shots on frame forcing Reagan Moffatt (Denville, NJ) to make two saves within the first 12:49 minutes of action. Marissa Perachi (Washington Depot, CT) recorded the first shot but was steered clear by Lili Hellerman (Ashland, MA). Steckley and Delaney Mohl (Hopewell Junction, NY) attempted to get the Engineers on the board but were kept at bay by Moffatt. The Engineers closed the first stanza of play with a 7-3 shot advantage.

Josephine Conlon (Hoboken, NJ) and Rian Fadden (Leicester, MA) attempted to get the offense rolling in the second half as Moffatt turned down Fadden's strike at net and was followed by a Madisyn Bagby (Aurora, CO) shot that hit the post to continue the scoreless action. Salve Regina's Perachi, Hannah Daniewicz (Preston, CT) and Allie Gallagher (Staten Island, NY) strung a few bids together but were off target. The teams' defenses continued to stay strong as Mohl's shot was blocked and Moffatt registered another save when she faced an Abigail Johnson (Middletown, CT) shot.

The Crimson and Gray flipped the pitch for another attempt for the go-ahead marker as Bagby struck the post for the second time on the afternoon and kickstarted another shooting spree as Bagby, Lily Guiliano (North Salem, NY), and Steckley all recorded final shots on frame but were unable to connect for the Engineers.

The visitors outshot Salve Regina 18-9 and on target 9-2 as WPI's Hellerman only faced two shots on the day as the Seahawks steered away nine shots on the afternoon.

WPI returns to play on Wednesday at 3:30pm, battling against Babson on the road in a conference matchup. Salve Regina travels to University of New England for a 4:30pm non-conference contest on Wednesday.
