Natalie Barnouw (Los Angeles, CA) and sophomore
Sasha Ceol (Sherborn, MA) both notched a goal and an assist as nationally-ranked MIT blanked visiting WPI 4-0 in a NEWMAC women's soccer contest on Roberts Field late Saturday afternoon.
MIT, No.8 in the latest United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III Top 25, is now 17-2-1 overall and 10-0-1 in conference play while WPI concludes regular season with a 10-6-3 record and a 5-4-2 mark in NEWMAC action.
WPI amassed 17 points in the 12-team conference and earned the sixth seed in next week's NEWMAC Tournament. Worcester's Engineers will head to third-seeded in a 6pm quarterfinal contest on Tuesday. The contest is a rematch of a 2024 semifinal won in Boston by the Crimson and Gray. Top-seeded MIT will host eighth-seeded Wellesley at 4pm on Tuesday in another quarterfinal.
Ceol lifted a pass from the MIT side of the field over to the offensive zone where Barnouw collected the ball for a breakaway chance and converted the goal at 16:38.
Ayla Verheul (Naarden, Netherlands) made great diving save at the near post on
Ayla Sumer (Dallas, TX) to keep the score 1-0.
Arianna Doss (Houston, TX) sent a cross into the front of the net for
Madeline Seebeck (Palm Beach Gardens, FL) whose shot went into the corner of the net to make it 2-0 MIT at 47:34. Ceol collected a loose ball off a corner kick by
Leena Mehendale (Dallas, TX) and put it past a diving
Maya Mussel (Oxford, CT) at 51:51.
Barnouw sent a cross to the front of the net where
Ella Conopask (Fairfield, CT) deflected the ball into the goal at 79:19 to secure the win.
Ava Muffoletto (Kings Park, NY) and
Maddy Noll (Northbrook, IL) combined for the 15th shutout of the season for MIT. Muffoletto got the win to move to 15-0.
Verheul (4) and Mussel (2) teamed up for six stops in net for WPI.
Jess English (Ledyard, CT) and
Katie Adiletta (Bolton, MA) both uncorked multiple shots as the Crimson and Gray unleashed seven bids on the afternoon.
