The 2022-2023 campaign represents Lucy Belt's fourth year leading the throws squad at WPI.

Despite competition being limited to only an outdoor season during the 2020-2021 academic year, Coach Belt's athletes saw tremendous success in year two of her tutelage, culminating in the women's program winning their first NEWMAC title since 1994. Leading the charge was graduate student, Skylar Barthelmes. Barthelmes lead the region with top marks in the hammer throw and shot put, as well as a top-5 mark in the discus throw, for which she was named All-Region by the USTFCCCA. She would also earn All-NEICAAA distinction in those three events, as well as be named NEWMAC Field Athlete of the Year after winning the conference title in the hammer throw and shot put, along with a second-place finish in the discus throw and fifth place in the javelin. The javelin was the deepest event for the Engineers, where they were ranked #6 in all of NCAA Division III with an average of 35.20m or 115-6. The javelin squad was led by conference champion and first year, Elizabeth Matticoli.

The men's throws scored and impressive 59 points, nearly a quarter of the entire team total, to help secure the first-ever conference title in program history, as well as rank as a top-3 team in the region throughout the entirety of the season.

In her first year with the program, Belt led a young group of student-athletes to numerous career-best performances and saw two members of her throwers qualify for the Division III New England Championships.

Belt threw the javelin for the UMass Minutewomen.  Her best heave of 137-4 came at the All-New England All Divisions Championships at the end of her sophomore season in May of 2017.  In April of 2018 she won the javelin at the Minuteman Invitational with a toss of 126-0.

A native of Seekonk, MA, Belt graduated from UMass in May of 2019 with an undergraduate degree in Sustainable Food & Farming and Nutrition. She is currently seeking her graduate degree from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Worcester.
