Miles Ketchum begins his 12th season as part of the WPI track & field coaching staff and his tenth with the Cross Country program in 2023-24.  In October of 2021, he was promoted to Head Track and Field Coach.

Last season, the women’s program captured third at the NEWMAC Championships, 12^th at the New England DIII Championships before tying 20^th at the All-New England Championships for the women’s programs. The men’s program captured the Wheaton Invitational title, placed third at the NEWMAC Championships and finished 11^th at the New England Division III Championships. The Track & Field crew had three selected to the 2023 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships: Grace Hadley (5k), Sydney Packard (800m) and Nicholas Fiorenza (110mH).

In 2021-22 was an outstanding year for the Crimson and Gray as the high-powered graduate students comprised of Oliver Thomas, Skylar Barthelmes and Katy Nippert consistently led both program to national rankings with constant broken records, individual titles and a numerous top-five team finishes and program-best finishes at regional championships meets helping the Engineers to compete at the 2022 NCAA Division III Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The women’s team tied ninth at SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio, in May of 2022 earning the highest-ever finish in program history and only five points away from a top-five showing, overall the Crimson and Gray posted a trio of All-America nods that weekend claimed by Oliver Thomas (110mH), Skylar Barthelmes (Hammer, Shot Put) and the 4x100m relay team featuring Katherine Pawlak, who also was named the 2022 Division III Women’s Track & Field Elite 90 Award recipient, Janelle Knight, Vivienne Evans and Nippert. 

Ketchum traveled with Thomas to Spokane, Washington, as the graduate student sprinter and hurdler was invited to compete in the US National Indoor Men’s Track & Field Championships as he posted a 7.99 time in the 60-meter hurdles clocking in his fifth sub-eight second finish in the event. Nippert finished as a runner-up

The 2020-21 outdoor season not only saw the women's team win their first conference title since 1994, but the men take home their first-ever title. Both teams' success was due in large part to the prowess of the Ketchum-led sprints/hurdles group. Oliver Thomas '21 captured NEWMAC titles in the 110m and 400m hurdles, as well as lead-off for the victorious 4x100m relay. For his outstanding performance at the championship he was named NEWMAC Track Athlete of the Year. Thomas would go on to earn the NEICAAA 110m hurdle title, as well as his third All-America honor of his career, following a seventh place finish in the event at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championship. Hurdles was certainly a strong suit for the men's team as they finished the outdoor campaign ranked #2 in all of NCAA Division III with a 14.91 average. Along with Thomas, he would see fellow hurdler, Malek Elshahks '21 earn entry into the NCAA Championship for the 110m hurdles, earning All-Region distinction. The 4x100m relay of Thomas, Matt Adiletta '21, Tristan Andrew '24 and Matt Lacadie '24 would also go on to earn USTFCCCA All-Region honors. 

Due to the overwhelming success of his women sprinters, Ketchum was named New England Assistant Coach of the Year for the third time in his career. The highlight of the season came when the women's 4x100m relay, comprised of Arden Tanner '21, Janelle Knight '22, Vivienne Evans '24 and Katy Nippert '21 earned the the first-ever All-America finish for an outdoor relay, for either gender, in school history. The quartet would place fifth overall, with a season-best time of 47.27. In addition to the relay, Janelle Knight earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors in the 200m, and NEWMAC Rookie of the Year, Vivienne Evans was also named All-Region for the 100m. 

The 2016 NCAA Division III National Assistant Coach of the Year has seen his sprinters qualify for either the indoor or outdoor Division III NCAA Track & Field Championships every year he has been with the program, culminating in four All-American performances, including a runner-up finish by Liz Pellegrini '16 in the 400m hurdles, a seventh place finish by Antoine Harris '19 in the 200m and most recently back-to-back All-American performances in the 60m hurdles by Oliver Thomas '21. 

Under his tutelage, WPI women and men's sprints, hurdles and relays have set 17 school records and earned five New England titles.

A 2012 graduate of Wheaton (MA), Ketchum capped his collegiate career with an All-America performance in the 4x400-meter relay to go along with NEWMAC titles in the 4x100 and 4x400 relay. He is certified by the USTFCCCA in the Sprints, Hurdles and Relays, Strength & Conditioning, as well as the Jumping Events. He is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and works with many of WPI's varsity athletic teams designing and implementing their year-round strength and conditioning programs.
