WORCESTER -- The WPI women's swimming and diving team earned twenty top-five finishes and secured a second place overall result at the Worcester City Championships, hosted by the Engineers on Saturday.
Andrea Wu (Redmond, WA) had a 2nd place finish in the 50 Yard Freestyle and a 3rd place showing in the 100 Free, earning two of WPI's 7 top-three finishes. Wu touched the wall in 25.56 seconds in the 50 and 55.15 seconds in the 100. The sophomore was also part of the 400 Yard Free Relay and 400 Yard Medley, both of which took third place, and 200 Yard Medley and Free Relays, which both finished fourth.
Kylie Herbstzuber (Medfield, MA) was also an event-runner up, as she completed the 1000 Yard Freestyle event with a second-place time of 11:23.81.
In addition to also being a part of the two medley relay teams,
Audrey Dino (St. Louis, MO) took fourth place in the 100 Yard Backstroke, finishing with a time of 1:03.60.
Katrina Yurista (Laramie, WY) earned fourth place on the 1-meter diving board with a score of 234.20. Yurista also led the Engineers in 3-meter diving, placing sixth after scoring 222.65.
Morgan Foltz (North Easton, MA) was on all four relay teams and earned a third place finish in the 200 Back (2:18.10) and a fourth place finish in the 200 Fly (2:35.03).
Lada DiMascolo (Pyuallup, WA) was part of the third-place 400 Yard Free Relay team and also took third individually in the 500 Yard Free (5:30.15) and fourth in the 200 Yard Free (2:02.15).
With 961.5 points, Holy Cross earned the Callie Taffe Trophy, awarded to the women's team champions. Ms. Taffe was an outstanding competitor and school record holder for Holy Cross who earned AIAW All-America honors in 1981.
WPI amassed 725 points to place second, while Assumption (585 points) and Clark (470.5) rounded out the four-team field.
The Female Swimmer of the Meet award, named after Cathy Desrosiers (Clark '82) went to
Ainsley Nalen (Greenwood Village, CO) of Holy Cross. The Beth Ferraro (Clark '88) Award for Female Diver of the Meet went to Crusader
Katelyn Cerulli (Trumbull, CT).
The Engineers are next in the pool on Friday, November 3rd when they host Babson, Brandeis, Smith and Coast Guard for a meet beginning at 5:30pm.
