WORCESTER -- The WPI volleyball team celebrated Senior Day with a 3-1 (25-20, 21-25, 25-22, 25-19) win over visiting Union College on Saturday afternoon at Harrington Auditorium. The victory improves the Engineers to 10-12 overall, while the Dutchwomen dip to 11-13.

Before the match, WPI recognized graduate student
Catherine Reynolds (Concord, NH) and honored seniors
Olivia Deckers (Marlboro, MA),
Alexandra Spezzano (Medway, MA),
Jia Yazon (South Windsor, CT), and
Joanna Hu (Shrewsbury, MA) for their contributions to the program.

Reynolds celebrated individually with her NCAA Division III co-leading eighth triple-double of the season and the ninth of her career, racking up 12 kills, 10 digs, and 19 assists, also adding five blocks. Reynolds began the weekend tied with
Tessa Grover of Nazareth (NY), who had an additional one in two matches this weekend and and Max Ludlow of Vermont State-Johnson, who plays later this evening and has a rare doubleheader tomorrow. Deckers tallied a double-double on the day with 10 kills and 14 digs, while
Lily Eldridge (Danvers, MA) also doubled up with 16 assists and a team-high 17 digs, adding eight kills.

Elsewhere,
Zeala VanDamme (San Diego, CA) picked up 10 kills with a team-best six blocks, while
Emily Hudson (Melrose, MA) tallied seven kills, four blocks, and a team-high three aces. Yazon finished with 10 kills and nine digs on the day, while Spezzano had six digs. Hu added five digs and a pair of kills in the win.

For Union,
Maddie McCarron (Wilmington, MA) led all players with 13 kicks, while
Shannon McGrath (Greenlawn, NY) had a double-double with 12 kills and 15 digs.
Nikki Newcomer (Stamford, CT) and
Keara Page (Lowell, MA) each tallied eight kills.
Sydney Scanlon (South Deerfield, MA) had a double-double with 21 assists and 11 digs, while
Brooke Fleming (Andover, MA) notched 20 assists.
Georgia Pool (Yorba Linda, CA) rounded out the box score with a match-best 19 digs.

Set one stayed within two points until a 7-1 run put Union up 14-9. WPI answered with a 12-2 surge that turned the tables, giving the hosts a 21-16 advantage. The Engineers went up 24-18 and saw the Dutchwomen spoil two set points before a Deckers kill ended it at 25-20 for WPI.

Union tied the match with a win in the second frame, starting the set with a slim 6-3 edge. WPI rallied to tie at 10-10, but a 5-1 surge put Union up 15-11. The Engineers stayed close the whole set, but couldn't put together a final surge, as the Dutchwomen won it 25-21.

In the third, WPI scored the first four points of the set and took an early 13-5 lead to set the tone. Union battled back to make it 15-12, but the Engineers pushed it back to a six-point bulge with a 4-1 run. Again Union rallied, tying the set at 20-20 after five unanswered points, but WPI scored five of the final seven points to win it 25-22, going up 2-1 in the match.

In the final frame, the Engineers took control with an early 8-1 surge that put them up 10-4. Union closed the gap to 16-15 on a 4-0 surge, but WPI responded with six unanswered points to take a 22-15 lead. One final Dutchwomen surge saw the lead shrink to 23-13, but the Engineers closed it out with a Union error and a Deckers ace to win it 25-19.

WPI is off until Tuesday when they host Wellesley at 7pm. Union will close out its season at Plattsburgh State on Saturday at 1pm.
