WORCESTER ---
Madisyn Bagby (Aurora, CO) marked the opening goal for WPI women's soccer as the Engineers tied with NEWMAC foe Clark 1-1 on Friday night at H. Carr Field at Alumni Stadium.
The Crimson and Gray are now 6-5-2 and 2-2-2 in conference play as Clark holds a 6-3-3 record and 1-3-1 mark in NEWMAC action.
Jamie Stern (Highland Park, IL) posted the first two strikes at goal on the evening in the opening 22 minutes of play and were both turned away by WPI netminder
Lili Hellerman (Ashland, MA).
Reese Pszenny (Danvers, MA) headed a ball wide marking the lone attack for the Engineers in the first half.
In the second stanza,
Hannah Wolfgang (Holliston, MA) corralled the ball in the midfield and played it back to
Lottie McLeod (Newton, MA) who laced a ball in the middle of Clark's back line and found Bagby who put on shot on goal which was tipped by the Cougars'
Anabella White (Manhattan Beach, CA) but still made its way to the back of the net for Babgy's fourth netter of the 2023 campaign.
The visitors responded in the 76th minute as Stern knotted the match off a free kick opportunity as she floated the ball just over the hands Hellerman from 30 yards out for her first goal of the season. Stern recorded all four of Clark's shots on frame including the final attempt which hit the crossbar in the 88th minute of play to keep the match at a 1-1 decision.
Clark enjoyed a slight advantage in shots (9-5) and on goal (4-3). White steered away a pair of shots on the evening for the Cougars as Hellerman collected three saves in net for the Engineers.
WPI will take a break from action for A-Term finals and will return to H. Carr Field to close out its three-game homestand with Coast Guard on Saturday, October 14, in a NEWMAC contest scheduled for 12pm.
