Kingston, RI --- Three WPI men's track and field student-athletes reached postseason qualifying standards, while sophomore
Gavin Fleck (Bend. OR) notched a victory as the Engineers competed at the URI Invitational at Mackal Field House on Saturday.
Fleck recorded a win in the pole vault, improving on his postseason qualifying height with a mark of 4.55m. Senior
Matt Gadziala (Clinton, NY) was second in the event, going 4.25m, also a postseason standard, while junior
William Pagliarulo (Bedford, NH) was sixth in 4.10m.
Freshman
Michael Zuo (Worcester, MA) continued his strong debut season, with an eighth-place finish in the shot put. His best toss went 14.28m, which qualifies him for the New England Division III Championships and is a personal record.
In the mile, three Engineers finished the the top ten, led by a fifth-place finish from senior
Avinash Bissoondial (Millbury, MA), who clocked in at 4:21.87. Graduate student
David Reynolds (Andover, NH) was seventh in 4:22.94, while sophomore
Brinson Wyche (Corvallis, MT) took ninth in 4:25.38.
Junior
Jack Adiletta (Bolton, MA) and sophomore
Brett Gerlach (Lock Haven, PA) each picked up ninth-place rankings. Adiletta went 11.05m in the triple jump, while Gerlach notched a 1.91m leap in the high jump.
Freshman
Koray Boybeyi (Reston, VA) rounded out the Engineers' top ten finishes with an eighth-place effort in the 200m dash where he went 23.22.
WPI returns to the track on Saturday, January 27 at the Wheaton Invitational beginning at 10am.
