Norton, MA --- The WPI men's track and field team took home the team title on Saturday at the Wheaton Invitational.
The Engineers parlayed five event wins and 20 top-five finishes into 146 points, ahead of UMass Dartmouth's 109-point second-place total. Bryant was third with 71, while Wheaton (48) and Wentworth (30) rounded out the top five.
Sophomore
Dylan Serreyn (Windom, MN) recorded two wins at the event, taking the high jump and triple jump titles. In the high jump, Serreyn and
Brett Gerlach (Lock Haven, PA) finished 1-2, both notching season-best clearances of 1.95m. Junior
Matthew Catuccio (Trumbull, CT) was fourth in the same event, clearing 1.85m.
In the triple jump, Serreyn qualified for the New England Division III meet with a victory. His best leap of 13.47m topped the field, while junior
Jack Adiletta (Bolton, MA) was third with a distance of 11.91m.
Four Engineers occupied the top five spots in the pole vault, led by a win from sophomore
Gavin Fleck (Bend. OR), who notched a season-best clearance of 4.60m. Junior
William Pagliarulo (Bedford, NH) was second with a 4.10m leap, while senior
Matt Gadziala (Clinton, NY) was fourth (3.95m), and senior
Chris Nguyen (Tewksbury, MA) was fifth (3.80m).
Sophomore
Brinson Wyche (Corvallis, MT) closed out his busy weekend by winning the mile run at Wheaton. He clocked in at 4:28.82 to outpace the field.
Freshman
Koray Boybeyi (Reston, VA) qualified also qualified for postseason competition, placing second in the 200m dash in 22.91. Freshmen
Russell Hertel (Westminster, MA) and
Sam Manteria (Wilbraham, MA) took third and fourth overall, in 23.50 and 23.56. Manteria also took third overall in the 60m dash, going 7.20 seconds.
Sophomore
Anthony Minichiello (Burlington, MA) recorded a second-place finish in the 400m, clocking in at 52.80. Senior
Jarrett Gulden (Walpole, ME) also grabbed a third-place finish at the meet, going 8:55.18 in the 3,000m.
Rookie
Ethan Anderson (North Haven, CT) recorded a pair of top-five finishes. He was third in the weight throw with a toss of 13.97m, and fourth in the shot put, throwing 12.95m.
In the 60m hurdles, senior
Matthew Lacadie (Milford, CT) and freshman
Daniel Kim (Orange, CT) finished third and fourth overall, finishing in 8.78 and 9.12, respectively.
Closing out the weekend in the 4x400m relay, WPI's top team raced to a victory. Boybeyi, Hertel, freshmen
Gabriel D'Amour (Somers, CT), and Kim combined for a time of 3:29.92, over three seconds better than the second-place team.
The Engineers are back in action next weekend at the Tufts Cupid Challenge & Multi Meet, beginning on Friday and continuing on Saturday.
