South Hadley, MA --- WPI fell to host Mount Holyoke in straight sets Wednesday night in a NEWMAC contest volleyball contest played inside Mildred S. Howard Gymnasium. The Lyons took the match by set scores of by 25-13, 25-19, 25-17.
With the setback, WPI falls to 5-14 on the season, 0-7 in conference play while Mount Holyoke improves to 10-8 overall, 1-6 in NEWMAC action.
The Engineers were led by
Anastasia Kelnik (Fair Lawn, NJ), who smashed seven kills and a block assist on the game.
Victoria Escuer (Caracas, Venezuela) shared game-high honors in digs with 17 and chipped in three assists.
Lily Eldridge (Danvers, MA) doled out 11 assists, and added six digs on the night, while
Preslie Jerebker (Denver, CO) contributed another seven assists.
The Lyons saw a standout performance by
Sadie Duffrin (Minneapolis, MI), accounting for 32 assists and three digs.
Lucie Berclaz (Vaud, Switzerland) and
Madeline Barton (Brookfield, WI) both belted 12 kills and chipped in with eight and 10 digs respectively with Berclaz providing eight of MHC's impressive 15 service aces on the night and
Kyra Staples (Chatham, IL) totaled seven digs and added three assists.
WPI kicks off a homestand on Saturday with an 11am tri-match with Connecticut College and Fitchburg State. Mount Holyoke plays Bay Path at home in a 6pm contest this Friday.
