Women’s DMR Sets School Mark; Men Race Strong at BU

Boston, MA --- The WPI track and field closed out a busy weekend at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at BU on Saturday.
 
In the only women's event of the day, the distance medley relay foursome of graduate student Amelia Kokernak (Niskayuna, NY), senior Isabel Hallal (Foxboro, MA), graduate student Elise Deshusses (Chapel Hill, NC), and graduate student Grace Hadley (North Reading, MA) teamed up to take down the school record. The foursome went 11:43.43, anchored by a 4:43 split in the 1600m from Hadley. They topped the previous school mark of  11:46.54 set in 2020 by Hadley, Lora Dufresne '23, Lauren Kaija '21, and Sydney Packard '20.
 
On the men's side, 16 student-athletes competed in the deep field. In the 3k, graduate student David Reynolds (Andover, NH) clocked in at a season-best time, going 8:32.70 to finish 26th overall.
 
Senior Matthew Lacadie (Milford, CT) posted a top-25 finish in the 60m hurdles, finishing in 8.78 seconds. Sophomore Thomas Skerry (Dedham, MA) notched the top time in his heat of the 800m event, finishing in 1:55.22.
 
A trip of underclassmen had solid 400m races, led by sophomore Anthony Minichiello (Burlington, MA) who recorded a time of 50.85. Freshmen Gabriel D'Amour (Somers, CT) and Daniel Kim (Orange, CT) were less than a second behind, with D'Amour going 51.70 and Kim, 51.74.
 
In the 200m dash, senior Tristan Andrew (Newtown, CT) recorded a speedy personal best, recording a time of 22.07. Freshman Koray Boybeyi (Reston, VA) also notched a personal best time by going 22.54, followed by sophomore Alex Cole (Weymouth, MA) with a time of 23.22.
 
In the mile, senior Avinash Bissoondial (Millbury, MA) and sophomore sophomore Brinson Wyche (Corvallis, MT) tallied personal bests at the meet. Bissoondial clocked in at 4:14.24, while Wyche ran a 4:20.69.
 
Freshman Michael Zuo (Worcester, MA) advanced to the shot put finals, finishing 10th overall. His best toss went 13.84m. Also on the field side, freshman Ethan Anderson (North Haven, CT) was 15th in the weight throw, with a final distance of 15.45m.
 
In the 4x400m relay, Kim, Boybeyi, Minichello, and Andrew combined for a season-best time of 3:22.79 to round out the highlights.
 
The full team will be back in action on Saturday, February 17 at Springfield's Triangle Classic, which begins at 11am.
