Medford, MA --- The WPI men's track and field team had a number of strong performances at the Tufts Cupid Challenge and Multi Meet this weekend. The Engineers, ranked fourth in the region, racked up 15 podium finishes, while four WPI student-athletes hit New England Division III qualifying standards.
Sophomore
Gavin Fleck (Bend. OR) took home the pole vault title, as three Engineers finished in the top eight. He cleared 4.40m to top the field, while senior
Chris Nguyen (Tewksbury, MA) was seventh (3.90m) and senior
Matt Gadziala (Clinton, NY) was eighth (3.80m).
Sophomores
Brett Gerlach (Lock Haven, PA) and
Dylan Serreyn (Windom, MN) each earned a pair of podium finishes. In the triple jump, Gerlach was second with a 13.08m leap, while Serreyn was third in 12.91m. In the high jump. Serreyn was seventh and Gerlach was eighth, both going 1.91m.
Junior
William Pagliarulo (Bedford, NH) had an outstanding performance in his heptathlon debut, taking fourth overall with 4,344 points, securing a post-season berth. He won the pole vault with a season-best clearance of 4.30m, while also taking the high jump with a 1.90m leap.
Senior
Matthew Lacadie (Milford, CT) and freshman
Daniel Kim (Orange, CT) each notched postseason qualifying times in the 60-meter hurdles, advancing to the finals. Lacadie took third overall in 8.67 seconds to improve on her personal best, while Kim took fifth in 8.71. In the 600-meter, sophomore
Everett Mosher (Chester, VT) finished 11th crossing the line at 1:26.22 claim a spot in postseason championship action.
Freshman
Ethan Anderson (North Haven, CT) took fifth place in the weight throw. He threw 15.01m, marking both a postseason qualifying standard and a personal best. Classmate
Sam Manteria (Wilbraham, MA) had a strong showing in a stacked 60m dash field, taking sixth overall in 7.12 seconds.
Three other WPI individuals landed on the podium. Senior
Tristan Andrew (Newtown, CT) was seventh in the 400m event, going 51.65 to qualify for postseason competition, senior
Avinash Bissoondial (Millbury, MA) was seventh in the mile run, going 4:19.06, and senior
Connor Gaudette (Holden, MA) took seventh in the 5k event, posting a time of 16:03.26.
Closing out the meet, the Engineers went 2-3 in the 4x800m relay. The "A" team of sophomore
Brinson Wyche (Corvallis, MT), Bissoondial, senior
Jarrett Gulden (Walpole, ME), and junior
Brendan May (Rutland, MA) combined for a second-place time of 8:15.27. In third, senior
Andrew Peyton (Merrimack, NH), freshman
Ryan Coceano (Cinnaminson, NJ), senior
Jack Robertson (Uxbridge, MA), and Gaudette finished in 8:38.40.
WPI returns to the track on Saturday, February 10 at BU's Valentine Invitational.
