Amherst, MA --- The WPI women's track and field team competed at the UMass Commonwealth Invitational this weekend. Highlighting the event, the Engineers saw sophomore
Lauren Coutu (Baldwinville, MA) and senior
Caitlin Guilfoyle (Hastings-on-Hudson, NY) qualify for postseason competition.
As a team, WPI finished with 34 points in the Division-I dominated meet. UMass Amherst won it with 172 points, followed by Vermont (104) and New Hampshire (73).
Coutu took part in the heptathlon at the multi-meet earlier this week, finishing 11th overall with 3,214 points to earn a spot at the New England Division III Championships. She notched two top-five event finishes, taking fourth in the javelin (27.42m) and fifth in the 800m (2:41.48).
Guilfoyle won the 1,500m with a new personal best time of 4:44.35. Her time also qualified her for a spot at the NED3 Championships. Graduate student
Elise Deshusses (Chapel Hill, NC) also nabbed a top-10 finish in the event, taking seventh in 4:52.90.
Guilfoyle also led a trio of Engineers in the top 10 in the 800m run, taking sixth overall in 2:26.60. Graduate student

Charlotte Kokernak (Niskayuna, NY) took 10th (2:28.91).
Sophomore
Sophia Reynolds (Andover, NH) and sophomore
Beth Irwin (Guilderland, NY) finished second and third overall in the 3000m steeplechase. Reynolds clocked in at 12:24.97 and Irwin finished in 13:01.12.
Senior
Isabel Hallal (Foxboro, MA) and senior
Leithsa Dimanche (Billerica, MA) both finished in the top-10 in the 400m dash, with Hallal going 1:02.58 and Dimanche finishing in 1:03.86.
Two of the Engineers hurdlers notched top-10 finishes at the event. In the 400m hurdles, sophomore
Bethany Brown (Allentown, PA) nabbed a personal best time of 1:09.95 in an eighth-place finish. Sophomore
Corryn Fisher (Swansea, MA) took ninth overall in the 100m hurdles, going 15.85, also a new personal best.
Senior
Sarah Ossing (Catonsville, MD) notched a fifth-place finish in the 5000m event, recording a time of 18:57.40.
Senior
Amanda Borden (Sherborn, MA) took fourth overall in the high jump, going 1.54m, while senior
Kathryn Butziger (East Greenwich, RI) nabbed a 10th-place effort in the javelin.
Wrapping up the meet, the 4x400m relay team of Hallal, Brown, sophomore
Bailey Allmon (Woodbine, MD), and Dimanche took fifth place, running 4:28 flat.
The Engineers continue their season tomorrow, wrapping up the Bison Outdoor Classic at Bucknell.
