WORCESTER -- The WPI track and field team took home four All-New England honors and broke two school records competing at the 2024 New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Outdoor Championships on Saturday. The two-day event, known as All-New England's, was hosted by Holy Cross.
Sophomore
Gavin Fleck (Bend, OR) took home his first All-New England honor with a victory in the pole vault. He cleared 5.06m to break his own school record, also tying for the third-best mark in all of NCAA Division III this season.
Graduate student
David Reynolds (Andover, NH) also set a school record, running to a second-place finish in the 5000m. Reynolds' All-New England time of 14:38.18, was just .05 shy of the victory.
Sophomore
Brett Gerlach (Lock Haven, PA) nabbed his first All-New England nod at the event. He tied for third overall in the high jump, with a best leap of 1.91m.
The Engineers had three in the top 15 in the 3000m steeplechase, led by All-New England performer, junior
Ryan Fischer (Merrimack, NH). Fischer set a new personal best time, running 9:24.35, and was closely followed by sophomore
Brinson Wyche (Corvallis, MT) who took ninth in 9:27.65. Senior
Jarrett Gulden (Walpole, ME) tallied a personal best time, taking 13th in 9:36.04.
Sophomores
Everett Mosher (Chester, VT) and
Thomas Skerry (Dedham, MA) both competed in the 800m. Mosher took 13th overall in a time of 1:55.94, while Skerry took 29th in 2:01.55.
Senior
Connor Gaudette (Holden, MA) and junior
Ben Furman (Groton, MA) each tallied top-20 placements. Gaudette took 13th overall in the 10000m race, finishing in 32:56.32. Furman was 19th in the javelin, throwing 51.59m.
As a team, the Engineers' men finished 12th out of 36 scoring teams, racking up 24.5 total points. Southern Connecticut State won with 103 points, while UNH finished second with 90.
On the women's side, senior
Caitlin Guilfoyle (Hastings-on-Hudson, NY) and graduate student
Elise Deshusses (Chapel Hill, NC) each picked up top-25 finishes. Deshusses was 20th in the 800m, going 2:20.84, while Guilfoyle was 22nd in the 1500m, running a 4:46.39.
Also competing this weekend, graduate student
Grace Hadley (North Reading, MA) raced in the 1500m at Yale's Elite Last Chance Meet. Hadley, who was the only non-Division III athlete in the seventh, was in first after 700 meters but faded to finish eighth overall in 4:33.02.
Up next for WPI, select student-athletes will compete at MIT's Last Chance Meet on Thursday, May 16th.
