Cambridge, MA --- Four Engineers competed at MIT's MIT Final Qualifier on Thursday night. In action for the Engineers were seniors
Elizabeth Matticoli (South Brunswick, NJ),
Morgan Collins (Hudson, MA),
Tristan Andrew (Newtown, CT), and sophomore
Brett Gerlach (Lock Haven, PA).
Matticoli made her case for an NCAA selection in the javelin nearly impenetrable, finishing third overall with a throw of 40.04m. Her effort marked the second time this season she broke the 40m mark.
Collins nabbed a personal best throw in the discus with a fifth-place mark of 40.38, while in the hammer, she took third overall with a toss of 45.36m.
Gerlach finished fifth overall in the high jump with a best leap of 1.96m, while Andrew went 22.44 in the 200m dash to place eighth..
While complete NCAA selections for the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be announced tomorrow, the Engineers will very likely have four competitors: Matticoli, graduate student
David Reynolds (Andover, NH) in the 10k, sophomore
Gavin Fleck (Bend, OR) in the pole vault, and graduate student
Grace Hadley (North Reading, MA) in the 1500 and the 5k.
The NCAA Championships will begin on Thursday, May 23 in Myrtle Beach, SC. Thursday's schedule includes women's javelin (11am), men's pole vault (4pm), men's 10k (9:15pm) finals and women's 1,500 (5:35pm) preliminaries. Saturday will include the women's 1,500 (4:25pm) and 5,000 (7pm) finals.
