Waterford, CT --- The WPI men's cross country program recorded 16th- and 17th-place team finishes at the Conn College Invitational that featured a dozen nationally-ranked programs at Harkness Memorial State Park in Waterford, Connecticut, on Saturday morning.
Leading off the day in Waterford were the Engineers that finished 17
th as a team in the Men's White Open Race that featured 363 runners as Tufts (65), NYU (65) and Williams (65) tied in points as Tufts took the event win with two runners placing in the top five at three and five.
WPI's
Matthew Meerdink (Ballston Spa, NY) led the Crimson and Gray as he clocked a 26:18.2 time for 48th overall.
Giuseppe Villani (Shrewsbury, MA) followed with a 27:17.7 time just seven seconds ahead of
Alden Betterley (Bow, NH) who finished at 27:24.9 to round out top finishes.
The Men's Blue Race followed at 12pm as No. 3 Johns Hopkins won the event with 96 total points including
Emmanuel Leblond (Mountain View, CA) who won individually with a 23:42.0 time out of 34 total teams and 264 runners. No. 9 Tufts (111), No. 7 SUNY Geneseo (118), No. 4 NYU (122) and No. 8 Williams (132) rounded out the top five team performances as second-place through fifth-place finishes were determined by 21 team points). WPI finished 16th with overall of 34 squads.
Leading the Engineers was
Everett Mosher (Chester, VT) who completed the race in 24:28.3 for 18th overall marking a 21-second personal record on the day. Following Mosher was
Drew O'Reilly (Syracuse, NY) who finished second for the Crimson and Gray and 76th overall.
Brinson Wyche (Corvallis, MT),
Thomas Skerry (Dedham, MA) and
Jackson Sobelman (Redding, CT) finished 3-4-5 for the Engineers.
WPI will take a few weeks off before racing in the NEWMAC Cross Country Championships hosted by Wheaton on Saturday, November 1.
