Newport, RI ---
Lauren Meinhold (Boxboro, MA),
Arie Lang (West Hartford, CT) and
Ella Reeners (Windham, NH) all notched goals as the WPI field hockey team went on the road Saturday afternoon and spoiled Salve Regina's Homecoming Weekend by defeating the Seahawks 3-1 at Gaudet Field.
 .
The Engineers, who began the week ranked 20th nationally in the Division III NPI rankings, improve to 10-4 overall and 5-1 in conference play. It marks the eighth consecutive season dating back to 2017 (WPI did not play in 2020 due to Covid) which WPI has reached double figured wins, including the last five under fifth-year head coach
Kim Cosenza. Salve Regina slips to 9-5 on the season and 2-4 in NEWMAC play.
Â
After a scoreless opening quarter, WPI quickly seized the lead early in the second, with Meinhold finding the back of the net for her eighth goal of the season and 25th of her career just 1:59 into the period. The Crimson and Gray doubled their advantage five minutes into the second when Lang buried a feed from
Chloe Luongo (Amherst, NH) for the senior's third marker of 2025.
Â
The fourth quarter was defensive minded to start but the Seahawks drew back within a goal midway through when
Jordyn Pineau (South Dennis, MA) netted her second goal of the season with 7:08 to go.  The Engineers stiffed on defense and did not allow a shot the rest of the way and punctuated the triumph with a penalty stroke goal by Renner - her first of the season and second of her career - with just 14 seconds to go. Â
Â
Myles Lakin (Reading, MA) turned away three shots in a winning effort in net and now has 10 victories this season. Â
Siany Ortez (Attleboro, MA) also excelled in between the pipes for Salve Regina, collecting 10 stops. The Engineers enjoyed advantages in both shots (19-10) and penalty corners (8-4) in the game, with
Madeline Chase (Danvers, MA) and Meinhold sharing game high honors with four shots each.
Â
WPI returns home on Tuesday at 7pm to face MIT in a matchup where both squads are 5-1 in NEWMAC action and tied for second place.  Salve Regina closes out a three-game homestand the same day, entertaining Wheaton at 6pm.
