Bethlehem, PA --- The WPI men's cross country program raced in the Paul Short Run at the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course on the campus of NCAA Division I Lehigh on Friday.
The action kicked off for the Engineers at 9:30am in the Men's Open 8,000m trek where 575 runners completed the course as Princeton's Jackson Shorten took home the title in a 23:59.4 time as the Tigers recorded three of the top five placements in the event. Finishing marks for Crimson and Gray in the opening race were
Nathan Barry (Newburyport, MA) who clocked a 27:04.5,
Trip Williams (Pelham, NH) at 27:13.9,
Giuseppe Villani (Shrewsbury, MA) 27:22.7,
Daniel Narvaez (Wayland, MA) at 27:26.3 and
Luke Puffer (Manchester, CT) at 27:37.6 to round out the top-five representing WPI as
Zachary Shord (Laurel, MD) crossed the finish line at 28:24.4 and followed by
Craig Salois (Hopkinton, MA) at 29:38.1.
In the men's white race that took place at 12:30pm featured 407 runners across 45 total teams and 11 that were ranked in the top-30 nationally in the USTFCCCA Week 3 Cross Country National Coaches' Poll. No. 13 NYU took the best team score in the race with 54 points as five Violets finished within the top 20. No. 25 Amherst, No. 15 Carnegie Mellon, No. 15 Washington and Lee and No. 22 Lynchburg rounded out the top five team placements for the Men's College White 8K event. The Engineers finished 15
th overall with 445 team points with four members of the Crimson and Gray placing in the top 85.
Sophomore
Drew O'Reilly (Syracuse, NY) finished 42
nd overall with a 25:13.2 time in the 8,000-meter trek to lead the Boynton Hillers followed by senior
Everett Mosher (Chester, VT) who finished the course in 25:29.5 for 65
th overall.
Thomas Skerry (Dedham, MA) and freshman
Henry Jacobsen (Bolton, MA) recorded times of 25:30.6 and 25:38.1 for 72
nd and 85
th overall. Rounding out the Engineers' marks were
Brinson Wyche (Corvallis, MT) - 26:31.0,
Colin Britner (Hampton, CT ) - 26:44.4,
Jackson Sobelman (Redding, CT) - 26:51.1,
Ryan Coceano (Cinnaminson, NJ) - 27:09.3,
Matthew Meerdink (Ballston Spa, NY) - 27:13.9 and
Alden Betterley (Bow, NH) - 27:53.9.
WPI enjoy a week away from the trails before returning on Saturday, October 18th at the Conn College Invitational scheduled for a 10am start.
