Women’s Cross Country Competes at NEWMAC Championships

Attleboro, MA --- Senior Sophia Reynolds (Andover, NH) led WPI Women's Cross Country with a top 30 finish at the NEWMAC Championships held at the Mark Coogan Cross Country Course at Highland Park hosted by Wheaton.

Winning the event was MIT, ranked 2nd in the NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country National Coaches' Poll in Week 6, as it secured the championship with 24 points with all five runners in the top seven. Coast Guard (66) and Wellesley (112) followed up for second and third in the team standings. WPI finished eighth as a team with four in the top half of the field. Overall, Coast Guard's Claire Semerod (Centennial, CT) won the individual title with a 21:26.6 time in the 6,000-meter trek. 

Reynolds, posted a 24:07.1 time for 29th overall individually, followed by Kayleigh Carnazza (Virginia Beach, VA) completed the 6,000-meter course in a 24:50.5 time. Beth Irwin (Guilderland, NY) and Grace Connell (Far Hills, NJ) finished 60th and 61st respectively. Beth Brown (Allentown, PA) and Sabrina Cady (Lowell, MA) posted times of 25:45.7 and 25:49.2 for 72nd and 74th. 

The women's cross country program returns to the course in two weeks at the NCAA East Regional Championship at 12pm hosted by Suffolk in Contoocook, NH.
