Williamstown, MA --- WPI's Women's Swimming and Diving Team (2-8) fell in three tough competitions against fellow Division III programs, Trinity, Tufts and hosts Williams.
Trinity defeated the Engineers 192-92, while the Jumbos of Tufts won 250-44, and the Ephs of Williams College were victorious 237-43.
Despite the scoreline, WPI put up several strong performances in western Mass. While a little off her season best time of 1:57.45,
Mallory LaPointe (Saint Johns, FL) finished among the top 8 in the 200 free, going 2:00.67 to finish 8th overall, just two spots of her teammate,
Kate Creusere (Las Cruces, NM), who touched at 2:02.16 to finish 10th. LaPointe finished also finished tied for 9th in the 100 free going 56.26. The first year had a quick turn-around as she appeared in the very next event, the 200 back, where she again was the school's top performer, finishing 9th overall with a result of 2:20.08.
Creusere had a strong showing in the 200 fly in addition to her 200 free showing, setting a new season best of 2:20.04. Fellow sophomore,
Allie Marvell (Nashua, NH) also went a season best time in the event going 2:21.70. Marvell was WPI top finisher in the 500 free going 5:33.51 to finish 8th as well, being the school's top finisher in the 400 IM, where her 5:02.90 earned her 10th. Marvell was joined in those two events by first-year
Amber Jacobs (Cedar Falls, IA) with finishes of 5:36.09 (9th) and 5:14.41 (12th) respectively. Jacobs was also the Engineers top placed finisher in the 1000 free, where her 11:28.78 earned her a 6th place finish.
The Florida native, LaPointe, ended her afternoon anchoring the 200 free relay, which finished 9th overall in a new season with a best time of 1:43.90. LaPointe anchored the relay, and was joined by
Sarah Kang (Richmond, VA),
Madison Harris (Upper Marlboro, MD) and
Katrina Waite (Falmouth, ME). Kang, like LaPointe, was swimming some new events, with the sophomore taking on the 200 fly to open up her individual slate of events. She like LaPointe had a strong connection to finishing 9th, as she posted a team leading results of 2:12.88. Kang earned another 9th place finish, this time in the 100 fly, as she went 1:00.93.
The Engineers return to action after the Thanksgiving break, as they host the Gompei Invite on the 5th, 6th and 7th of December.
