Tanner Thatcher (Blairstown, NJ) and
Nicolas LeSieur (Walnut Creek, PA) and sophomore
Joseph Bernard (Stratham, NH) earned 2025 NCAA Division III Men's Scholar All-America praise as announced by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) recently. WPI earned team recognition as the Engineers ranked 16th overall in the Team Scholar All-America Top 30.
Thatcher returns to the NWCA Scholar All-American list for the third consecutive occasion as he was one of six members to be honored following the 2022-23 season, the lone representative after the 2023-24 campaign and is one of three this year. Thatcher will close out his academic career with a degree in environment engineering.
LeSieur and Bernard earned their first-career Scholar All-America individual nods this year. The fellow senior grappler will wrap up his academic career with a degree in mechanical engineering as Bernard will conclude his sophomore stint as a biochemistry major. On the mat, LeSieur earned regional recognition throughout February as he was ranked as high as sixth in the NWCA Individual regional rankings.
For individual honors, student-athletes must place in the top eight of their respective regional tournament or mark at least 15 matches wrestled with a win percentage of 66% or more. Off the mat, wrestlers must have an average GPA of 3.2 over the last two semesters or quarters or last three trimesters or have a cumulative GPA of 3.2.
In the classroom, the Crimson and Gray finished 16th overall in the Top 30 Team Scholar All-America standings with a 3.654 team grade-point average as Ohio Northern were deemed the Team Scholar All-America Champions with a 3.899 team GPA.
The Engineers wrapped up the 2024-25 season with a 15th-place team finish at the NCAA Division III East Regional Championships highlighted by a fifth-place showing by Thatcher. WPI concluded the dual portion of its schedule at 12-9 to mark the first finish above .500 since the 2018-19 campaign.
