Middletown, CT --- WPI Men's Cross Country finished fourth as a team at the Cardinal Invitational, featuring multiple nationally-ranked squads, hosted by Wesleyan at the Wes Fuhrman '05 Trails Cross Country Course at Long Lane Farm in Middletown, Connecticut on Saturday morning.
Wesleyan, ranked 20th nationally in the USTFCCCA Men's Cross Country Week 1 National Coaches' Poll, won the event on a tiebreaker versus No. 16 MIT, as both squads finished with 44 points topping the 11-team field. No. 23 Amherst finished third in the overall with 66 points followed by the Crimson and Gray, ranked third in the east region with 97 points. Coast Guard tallied 162 points for fifth.
Individually, Wesleyan's
Dylan Cote won the event with a 24:37.77 time in the 8,000-meter trek followed by teammate
Liam Calhoun at 24:42.45 for second. Rounding out the top five was MIT's
Yichen Sun in third (24:43.31), Wesleyan's
Noah Mahoney (24:45.19) in fourth and
Renne Cooper (24:46.79) in fifth.
Everett Mosher (Chester, VT) led the Engineers with a 24:49.74 time and sixth overall as
Drew O'Reilly(Syracuse, NY) placed 15th with a 25:10.81 mark.
Thomas Skerry (Dedham, MA) and
Colin Britner(Hampton, CT) rounded out the top-25 crossing the finish line at 25:35.08 and 25:35.41 respectively in the 155-person field.
Brinson Wyche (Corvallis, MT) and
Henry Jacobsen (Bolton, MA) logged top-50 times at 26:09.51 (37th) and 26:15.21 (41st).
WPI will return to the trails at the Paul Short Run hosted by NCAA Division I Lehigh at the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course on Saturday, October 3rd, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
