Men’s Soccer Extends Unbeaten Streak to Three with 1-1 Draw with Undefeated Roger Williams

WORCESTER -- Mike Montabana (Jamison, PA) buried a free kick from just outside the box in the 38th minute to help the WPI men's soccer team secure a 1-1 tie with undefeated Roger Williams in a non-conference contest played Tuesday evening on H. Carr Field at Alumni Stadium.

With the result, the Engineers see their record move to 3-2-4 on the season and remain undefeated in their last three matches (1-0-2) while the Hawks, ranked third in the most recent United Soccer Coaches Region II rankings, stay unbeaten with a 6-0-4 overall mark.

Roger Williams struck first, denting the scoreboard in the 29th minute following a long offensive throw-in that was initially cleared away by a WPI defender but collected near the box by Tyler Jastrab (Townsend, MA), who buried a shot into the bottom left corner of the net for his third goal of the season and ninth of his career at 28:43

The hosts leveled the match nearly nine minutes later after Nathan Araujo (Holliston, MA) drew a foul just outside the box, and Montabana stepped up and deposited the ball in the into upper left corner of the net for his second goal of 2025 and sixth of his career at 37:26.

The opening 45 minutes saw WPI outshot the visitors 8-5 but it was the Hawks that turned the tables in a scoreless second half, holding a 10-4 edge in second half shots on way to a slight 15-12 advantage overall.  Roger Williams were awarded nine of the match's 11 corners on the night.

Brendan Ross (Winchester, MA) was credited with four stops for the shots while Eliot Panaccione (Pepperell, MA) turned away five shots for Roger Williams.

Both teams return to their respective conference schedules on Saturday.   WPI welcomes Coast Guard to Worcester for its NEWMAC home opener at 2pm while Roger Williams returns to Massachusetts when it ventures to Springfield to take on Western New England at 2:30pm.
