Norton, MA --- With 25 total top-10 finishes, the WPI women's indoor track and field team placed fifth overall at the Lyons Invitational on Friday evening, hosted by Wheaton College.
As a team, WPI totaled 42.5 points in the fifth place finish out of seven teams. Coast Guard captured the team title with 117.5 points, followed by Colby (92) and Wheaton (89.5) in the top three.
Freshman
Ella Stone (Branford, CT) delivered WPI's top field performance of the meet, finishing second in the long jump with a mark of 5.04 meters. Senior
Katy Gorden (Wayne, NJ) added a podium finish in the shot put, placing third with a throw of 10.31 meters.
On the track, sophomore
Madisen McLeod (Ledyard, CT) turned in the Engineers' top running finish, placing third in the 60-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 9.82. Freshman
Addison Collins (Tyngsboro, MA) followed with a sixth-place effort in 9.94.
Senior
Sophia Reynolds (Andover, NH) paced WPI in the mile, finishing fifth overall with a personal-best time of 5:22.40, while sophomore
Catherine Daly (Groton, MA) followed in seventh.
The Engineers posted three top-10 finishes in the 600 meters, led by senior
Bethany Brown (Allentown, PA), who placed fourth in 1:42.57. Freshman
Sabrina Cady (Lowell, MA) finished fifth, and senior
Bailey Allmon (Woodbine, MD) added a ninth-place showing.
In the 800 meters, junior
Maeve Steckley (Rochester, NY) recorded a fourth-place finish in 2:25.11. Seniors
Lauren Coutu (Baldwinville, MA) and sophomore
Caetlyn Embree (Sherborn, CT) followed in eighth and ninth, respectively.
Sophomore
Julia Fronc (Plaistow, NH) added a fourth-place effort in the 200 meters, crossing the line in 28.44.
WPI collected multiple top-10 results in the throws. Along with Gorden's third-place finish in the shot put, freshman
Joselyn Smith (Strong, ME) placed sixth and sophomore
Emma Conway (Suffield, CT) finished ninth. In the weight throw, sophomore
Sydney Shilts (Flemington, NJ) led the Engineers with a sixth-place finish, followed by Smith (seventh), Gorden (eighth), and freshman
Reese Dyson (Schwenksville, PA) in 10th.
Junior
Charly Painter (Littleton, MA) contributed a fourth-place finish in the pole vault, clearing 2.40 meters. Triple jump competition rounded out the individual events for WPI. Collins led the Engineers with a fifth-place jump of 10.45 meters. Stone placed eighth, while freshman
Shayna Hailey (Stoughton, MA) finished ninth and recorded a personal-best mark of 10.26 meters.
WPI also factored into the mixed 4x400-meter relay, placing two teams in the top five. The quartet of Cady,
Gabriel D'Amour (Somers, CT),
Samantha Alley (Randolph, NJ), and
Jackson Sobelman (Redding, CT) finished fourth in 3:55.82, while Steckley,
Anthony Minichiello (Burlington, MA),
Lexie Abrams (Lowell, MA), and
Everett Mosher (Chester, VT) followed closely behind in fifth at 3:56.06.
The Engineers return to action on Friday, January 30, at the BU Terrier Classic in Boston, MA.
