All-NEWMAC Awards-WPI Men's Cross Country-2026

Mosher Named NEWMAC Runner of the Year; Chabot and Co. Earn Men’s Coaching Staff of the Year Honors

WORCESTER --- WPI men's cross country graduate student Everett Mosher (Chester, VT) was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men's Cross Country Runner of the Year, while head coach Brian Chabot and his staff were selected as the conference's Coaching Staff of the Year, as announced by the league office on Wednesday.

Mosher, who also earned All-NEWMAC recognition for the second consecutive season, collected the NEWMAC Laurels of Academic Excellence Award for the second straight year, becoming the first two-time recipient of the honor in conference history.

Chabot and assistant coaches Kyle Gerlach '15, Amelia Kokernak and Rachel Hurley were recognized as the NEWMAC Men's Cross Country Coaching Staff of the Year for the first time after guiding the nationally-ranked Engineers to their 12th consecutive runner-up finish at the conference championship.

Mosher made history at Saturday's NEWMAC Championship, capturing the individual 8K crown in 24:45.1 to become the first WPI men's cross country runner to win the conference's individual title and earn Runner of the Year honors. The graduate student finished 4.1 seconds ahead of Babson's Nick Yacoub, becoming the first non-MIT runner to claim the championship since Springfield's Anthony Salvucci in 2012.

Remarkably, Mosher accomplished the feat in just his second season of cross country, having made his debut in the sport during the 2025 campaign. Since 1998, just six runners from institutions other than MIT have captured the NEWMAC men's cross country individual championship.

The historic performance added to an impressive fall campaign for Mosher, who previously clocked a career-best 8K time of 23:56.5 to win the RPI Fairgrounds Showdown. Following that victory, Mosher became the first WPI men's cross country student-athlete to earn United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Runner of the Week honors.

Mosher's success has extended into the classroom, where the civil engineering graduate student maintains a perfect 4.00 grade point average. His second consecutive Laurels of Academic Excellence Award recognizes the student-athlete with the highest GPA who finishes among the top 40 at the conference championship.

Meanwhile, Chabot and his staff earned their first NEWMAC Men's Cross Country Coaching Staff of the Year recognition after leading No. 25 WPI to a second-place finish at the conference championship with 59 points. The Engineers finished behind No. 10 MIT and ahead of third-place Babson, which totaled 66 points.

The recognition marks the first men's cross country coaching honor for Chabot, who previously garnered NEWMAC Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year accolades in 2017 and 2018. The conference transitioned from recognizing an individual Coach of the Year to honoring a Coaching Staff of the Year beginning with the 2021 season.

WPI returns to competition on Saturday, November 14, at the NCAA Division III Northeast Regional Championship, hosted by Bates at the Wainwright Recreation Complex in South Portland, Maine. The men's 8K race is scheduled for 11am.
