Molen Named NEWMAC Men’s Basketball Offensive Athlete of the Week

Justin Molen - NEWMAC Men's Basketball Offensive Athlete of the Week

Marlboro, MA --- WPI men's basketball junior Justin Molen (Newark, DE) was selected as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men's Basketball Offensive Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sunday, February 8. 

Joining Molen in the weekly accolades was Babson's Timmy O'Toole who earned Defensive Athlete of the Week honors.

Molen turned in an all-around performance as the league-leading Engineers posted a 2-0 week. The junior forward averaged 16.5 points per game while shooting 52.2 percent from the field and 50 percent from three-point range over the two triumphs.

The junior forward overcame first-half foul trouble to score 12 of his team-high 14 points after halftime in a 66-54 road victory at Springfield on Tuesday. Later in the week, Molen followed with another clutch second-half showing on Saturday, pouring in 13 of his team-best 19 points in a 70-58 win over Salve Regina, which entered the contest tied for second place in the conference standings. In addition to his scoring, Molen led all players with five assists against Springfield, added two more helpers versus Salve Regina, and grabbed four rebounds in each game.

This week's honor for Molen is his first-career nod and its the first for the Engineers this season. 

WPI remains atop the NEWMAC standings with a 17-4 overall record and 10-2 ledger in conference play as the Crimson and Gray turn to host Coast Guard on Wednesday at 5:30pm before heading to MIT on Saturday for a noon tip.
