WORCESTER -- The WPI men's rowing team posted a series of competitive results on Lake Quinsigamond Saturday, aided by a steady tailwind from the north-northwest on an otherwise mostly sunny morning.

The varsity eight, ranked eighth in the debut IRCA/IRA Division III poll, finished third in 6:03.71, behind Division I MIT (5:44.60) and third-ranked Williams (5:45.16) and ahead of No. 13 Washington College (6:23.75) and receiving votes Connecticut College (6:28.16) in racing for the James Donahue Cup. Williams had claimed the previous two contested editions of the Cup before last year's race was canceled due to an early April snowstorm.
 
In the second varsity eight, WPI placed third in 6:17.68, trailing Williams (5:55.96) and MIT (6:00.47) while finishing ahead of Connecticut College (6:50.06). The third varsity eight saw WPI finish third in 6:33.82, behind Williams (6:07.50) and Williams (6:16.98) and ahead of Connecticut College (8:04.17).

Racing concluded with the varsity four, where WPI A finished third in 7:47.75 behind MIT (7:25.20) and Williams (7:25.50), in the closest finish of the day, while Washington College (7:53.15) placed fourth and the Engineers' B entry finished fifth in 8:18.32.
 
The Crimson and Gray return to the water at 10:10am Sunday, squaring off with No. 7 Bates, No. 10 Hamilton and No. 13 Washington College on Lake Quinsigamond.
