WORCESTER -- The WPI men's rowing team, ranked eighth in the debut IRCA/IRA Division III poll, turned in a competitive performance on Lake Quinsigamond Sunday under sunny skies with relatively flat water and a slight tailwind.
 
The varsity eight finished third in 6:24.03, narrowly behind No. 7 Bates (6:19.83) and No. 10 Hamilton (6:22.73) while finishing ahead of No. 13 Washington College (6:36.43).
 
In the second varsity eight, WPI placed second in 6:35.70, trailing Bates (6:26.80) while finishing ahead of Hamilton (6:49.60).  The third varsity eight saw WPI finish second in 6:41.50, just 1.1 seconds behind Bates (6:40.40).
 
The fourth varsity eight concluded the day with WPI placing third in 7:25.90 behind two Bates entries (6:48.90, 7:06.50).
 
The Engineers will be back on Lake Quinsigamond next Saturday at 10:00am, hosting No. 3 Trinity, No. 11 Colby, No. 12 Ithaca and Marietta.
