Amherst, MA --- The No. 18 WPI softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader at Amherst on Tuesday afternoon, taking the opener 10-1 in five innings before completing the sweep with a 3-0 victory in game two. The Engineers improve to 30-2 on the season, while the Mammoths fall to 8-20.

WPI combined for 13 runs on 18 hits across the two games, backed by dominant pitching performances from
Naomi Boldebuck (Billerica, MA) and
Abby Merchant (Rancho Cucamonga, CA). The sweep also marked the program's second 30-win season under head coach
Heather Ross and the first since 2022.

Game One
WPI erupted early and cruised to a 10-1 run-rule victory in the opener.
Â
Emma Nagy (Monroe, WA) led the Engineers with a three-run home run, while
Virginia McKinney (Larchmont, NY) went 2-for-2 with two RBI and two runs scored.
Sandy Fairbairn (Norton, MA) added a double and an RBI, and
Meg Sherwood (Norfolk, MA) drove in two runs.
Riley O'Brien (Wynantskill, NY) chipped in with a pair of hits.

Boldebuck earned the win, allowing one run on six hits over five innings while striking out three.

Amherst was led by
May Mishima (Alpharetta, GA) and
Lulu Leppard (Nashua, NH), who each recorded two hits, while
Emma Nordstrom (Pelham, NY) drove in the lone run.
Annie Katuska (Cincinnati, OH) took the loss.

WPI jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first as Nagy launched a three-run homer to right. After Amherst answered with a run in the bottom half, the Engineers added a run in the second on an RBI double by Fairbairn.

WPI broke the game open in the third, capitalizing on an error before Sherwood delivered a two-run single and McKinney added a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 9-1. McKinney capped the scoring in the fifth with an RBI double.

Game Two
The Engineers relied on timely hitting and a shutout pitching performance to complete the sweep with a 3-0 win.

Lucy Latour (North Dighton, MA) paced the offense with three hits and two RBI, while McKinney added two hits.
Liz Jordan (Yardley, PA) scored twice, and
Stella Kozak (Auburn, NH) added a hit and a run scored.

Merchant earned the win with a complete-game shutout, allowing five hits while striking out three.

Amherst was led by Leppard, who recorded two hits, while
Laura Daniels (Brooklyn, NY) and Nordstrom each added a hit.
Abby Rebhan (McLean, VA) took the loss.

WPI broke through in the second inning as Latour delivered an RBI single to score Jordan. The Engineers added two more runs in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Sherwood and another RBI single from Latour to push the lead to 3-0.

Merchant held Amherst in check the rest of the way, working around scattered hits to secure the shutout.

WPI returns to action on Friday with a NEWMAC doubleheader at Smith beginning at 3:00 p.m. Amherst travels to Hamilton for a NESCAC doubleheader on Saturday.
