Marlboro, MA --- WPI Softball's Emma Nagy (Monroe, WA) was selected as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Softball Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 5th.
Joining Nagy as this week's Pitcher of the Week was Springfield's Amelia DeRosa.
Nagy powered the Engineers to a perfect 6–0 week, batting .500 (8-for-16) with nine RBI and six runs scored. The senior first baseman delivered a standout showing in Saturday's sweep of Emerson, which pushed WPI to 18-0 overall and 6-0 in NEWMAC play, going a combined 5-for-5 with seven RBI in the doubleheader. Nagy capped the opener with a game-ending grand slam before adding two doubles, two runs scored, and two RBI in the nightcap.
The Monroe, Washington native also came through in Friday's sweep of Wheaton, ripping a clutch two-run triple in game two to help secure one of two one-run victories. Earlier in the week, Nagy added a home run as the Crimson and Gray opened their home schedule with a doubleheader sweep of Emmanuel.
This marks Nagy's first NEWMAC weekly honor and continues a strong stretch for the Engineers, who have now earned back-to-back accolades from the NEWMAC as teammate Naomi Boldebuck(Billerica, MA) was named the conference's Pitcher of the Week.
WPI (18-0, 6-0 NEWMAC) heads to Brandeis on Tuesday for a non-conference twin bill before returning to NEWMAC play at Babson on Friday and hosting Coast Guard on Saturday.
