WORCESTER -- The WPI men's rowing team competed Saturday at the New England Rowing Championships on Lake Quinsigamond, advancing multiple boats through the morning heats and posting several strong finishes in the afternoon finals.
 
The Engineers opened the day with a strong showing in the heats, highlighted by a second-place finish in the second varsity four (7:22.888) to advance to the grand final. WPI also saw its third varsity eight and second varsity eight crews move into the afternoon petite finals after competitive morning racing against deep fields.
 
In the afternoon, WPI's third varsity eight captured the petite final in 6:53.500, marking the top finish of the day for the Crimson and Gray. The varsity eight followed with a third-place finish in the petite final, clocking a 6:07.035 in a tight race with Bates and Middlebury.
 
The second varsity eight also secured a third-place finish in its petite final (6:26.371), while the second varsity four turned in a runner-up performance in the grand final (8:25.348).
 
The third varsity four added another podium finish with a third-place showing in its grand final (8:16.906). 
 
WPI is set to compete Sunday, May 10th at the National Invitational Rowing Championships on Lake Quinsigamond, with racing beginning at 8am.
