Marlboro, MA --- Five WPI spring student-athletes were named to the ninth annual NEWMAC All-Sportsmanship Team, as announced as part of the league's postseason award program. Those honored for the Crimson and Gray include seniors
Kate Lindsay (Ashford, CT) and
Jonathan Lattimer (Windsor, CT) from Baseball, junior
Kaitlyn Barr (Grosse Pointe Woods, MI) from Softball and sophomores
Jackson Hunt (Hopedale, MA) from Men's Track and Field and
Madisen McLeod (Ledyard, CT) from Women's Track and Field.
The NEWMAC Sportsmanship Team is intended to recognize one student-athlete from each team, in every sport, who best demonstrates the ideals of the NEWMAC and its Code of Conduct, regardless of their overall performance or statistics for the season.
The honorees, selected by their respective coaching staffs, have distinguished themselves through demonstrated acts of sportsmanship and ethical behavior that go above and beyond the sport's playing rules and etiquette.
Jason Steele - Head Women's Rowing Coach on
Kate Lindsay - "Kate demonstrates outstanding sportsmanship through her humility, respect for others, and positive attitude in every race. Her dedication to rowing and example she sets both on and off the water make her a truly deserving recipient of this year's NEWMAC Sportsmanship Award in Rowing."
Brendan Casey - Head Baseball Coach on
Jonathan Lattimer - "Jonathan was a truly selfless individual that always put the needs of the team first. He was respected by all of his teammates by how he went about everything he did on the practice field, the weightroom, on gamedays, and around campus. He made all those around him better."
Heather Ross - Head Softball Coach on
Kaitlyn Barr - "Each year KB has grown in impact through her lighthearted fun and humor, taking ownership of little things that make our day-to-day operations run, and by brining endless joy and support to her teammates both on and off the field. She exemplifies what being a great teammate is in the WPI Softball Program and brings great value to our dugout, team, and program."
Emily Dippel - Head Track and Field Coach on
Jackson Hunt - "Jackson's appreciation for his fellow competitors knows no bounds. At NEWMAC's he gutted out a heartfelt 10K and quite literally left everything he had on the track. Despite being exhausted and still gasping for air, the first thing Jackson did when he crossed the line was congratulate any finishers and cheer every runner in, despite what team they ran for. Much like how he races, when it comes to sportsmanship, Jackson does not know how to give anything less than 110%."
Emily Dippel - Head Track and Field Coach on
Madisen McLeod - "Maddie is the first person to recognize and celebrate some's success regardless of what team they race for or the outcome of her own race. She consistently recognizes and vocalizes when a fellow hurdler has a big breakthrough with the same enthusiasm as if she herself had experienced it. Maddie's enthusiasm for her competitors is authentic and contagious. It creates a supportive environment rooted in mutual respect.."
The spring sportsmanship team is comprised of 79 student-athletes in the sports of baseball, men's and women's lacrosse, rowing, softball, men's and women's tennis, and men's and women's outdoor track & field.
