Boston, MA ---
Katie Adiletta (Bolton, MA) scored the lone goal of the game in the second half as WPI earned a non-conference victory over UMass Boston Saturday afternoon at James Cotter Field.
With the road win, the Crimson and Gray improves to 2-3, while the Beacons fall to 1-3-1.
Adiletta scored her third goal of the season in the 59th minute after the Engineers had accumulated 12 shots to that point. WPI fired nine shots in the first half, with two reaching the frame, but were turned away by UMass Boston goalkeeper
Janiya Morales Matier (North Easton, MA).
WPI's defense kept the Beacons off the board as they were held to just three shots on the afternoon. The Crimson and Gray added 11 more shots in the second half to keep the pressure on throughout the remainder of the contest. Ten different Engineers recorded a shot, led by
Maeve Steckley (Rochester, NY) and
Abigail Johnson (Middletown, CT), who combined for 11 shots, including four on target.
Eleni Pantzer (Indianapolis, IN) and
Sarah Frye (Nashua, NH) also tested Matier.
Ayla Verheul (Naarden, The Netherlands) earned the shutout victory in net for the Engineers, her second of the season. Matier falls to 1-3-1.
Both squads return to their respective home turfs Wednesday for 7pm non-conference contests, with WPI welcoming Johnson & Wales and UMass Boston hosting Curry.
