WORCESTER -- Mark Wild has been named the interim head coach of the WPI men's and women's swimming and diving programs, Director of Physical Education, Recreation and Athletics Dana L. Harmon announced. Wild will oversee the programs during the 2026-27 season.
 
Wild enters his fifth year as a member of the WPI swimming and diving coaching staff in 2026-27. During his tenure on Boynton Hill, Wild has worked with the Engineers' student-athletes while gaining experience with both the men's and women's programs. His previous coaching experience at the high school, club and masters levels has also provided him with a broad background in competitive swimming.
 
"I am pleased to announce that Mark Wild will be our interim head coach for our men's and women's swimming and diving programs this year," remarked Harmon. "Mark has been a valuable member of our coaching staff these past five years and has been part of the NEWMAC Swimming and Diving Coaching Staff of the Year in 2024 and 2026. Mark is passionate about our student-athletes' success in and out of the water, and I am looking forward to his leadership of our programs."
 
Before joining WPI, Wild served as an assistant coach at St. John's High School in Shrewsbury, MA. In his eight years with the Pioneers, Wild helped coach numerous athletes to both the MIAA Sectional and State Championships. Concurrent with his time at St. John's, Wild also coached at the Westboro Tennis and Swim Club, working with both the recreational team and its USA Swimming program, Evolution Aquatics.
 
Wild has also worked with the Worcester Area Masters team, where numerous swimmers have posted end-of-year top-10 times, including one national record. He also served as a waterfront director for YMCA Camp Harrington, where he managed lifeguards, conducted in-service training and taught swim lessons while also serving as an EMT with Fordham University Emergency Medical Services.
 
"I am very honored and privileged to step into the role of head coach of WPI Swimming and Diving for this season," stated Wild. "I am very thankful to the school and administration for trusting me with a program that, over the past 20 years, has been consistently near the top of the NEWMAC conference, and I have great expectations for what we can accomplish this season. Wild graduated from Fordham University with a Bachelor of Science degree in political and general science with a minor in international humanitarian affairs in May 2014.
