Dan Briand was named head coach of the WPI baseball program in 2026, bringing extensive collegiate coaching experience and a proven record of building competitive programs to the Engineers.
Briand spent nine seasons as head coach at Anna Maria, where he became the program’s all-time winningest coach with 163 victories. His teams qualified for postseason play in eight of his nine seasons, with the 2020 campaign shortened by the COVID-19 pandemic. Under his leadership, Anna Maria players earned three Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Year honors, two Pitcher of the Year awards and three Rookie of the Year selections. His players also collected 16 D3Baseball.com All-Region honors, 10 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-Region selections and 44 All-Conference accolades, while 74 student-athletes earned Academic All-Conference recognition.
Prior to Anna Maria, Briand served as an assistant coach at Becker, Roger Williams and Fitchburg State, spending two seasons at each institution. At Becker, his alma mater, he was a four-year baseball student-athlete and a two-time team captain. He earned First Team All-Conference honors as a senior in 2009, helping the program capture its first New England Collegiate Conference championship.
A Worcester-area native, Briand brings a longstanding connection to the local baseball community and a commitment to developing student-athletes on and off the field.
