Joe Nichols is entering his eighth year as a full-time member of the WPI Athletics staff, where he serves as Facilities & Recreation Supervisor.

After earning a Master of Science in Sport Management from West Virginia University in 2013, Nichols joined WPI as a Sports & Recreation Center Supervisor when the facility first opened. Prior to that, he spent two years as a Sports Information intern at WPI, gaining valuable experience in athletics communications and compliance.

In his current role, Nichols has revitalized the intramural sports program by introducing new initiatives, including the expansion of one-day tournament offerings that have increased participation and engagement across campus. He also developed a comprehensive participant manual and oversees the ongoing training and development of the intramural staff. Additionally, he has elevated the Sports & Recreation Center’s social media presence and works closely with the Assistant Director of Facilities & Recreation to manage the facility’s daily operations.

An active member of both the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) and the Massachusetts Association for Recreational Sports (MARS), Nichols has served on numerous committees and was recognized as the recipient of a NIRSA Regional Conference Professional Scholarship in 2017.

A 2011 graduate of Cazenovia College, Nichols earned a Bachelor of Professional Studies degree with concentrations in Management and Sport Management.
